Three Lava Leaf Organics team members standing in a cannabis field

At Lava Leaf Organics, our roots run deep in New Mexico’s soil and the cannabis community. What began as a vision between founders Mitchell, Tony, and Steve Martinez has blossomed into a cannabis company defined by resilience, intention, and integrity. As a locally owned Farmington, NM dispensary, we're committed to clean, ethical cannabis grown right here in the Four Corners.

We didn’t take the easy road. When our original license application under the Lynn and Erin Compassionate Use Act was denied in 2015 due to political hurdles, we doubled down instead of walking away. Partnering with industry leaders like Urban Wellness, we spent years refining our cultivation practices and proving that premium, patient-first cannabis could—and should—be the standard.

That persistence paid off. In 2021, we proudly secured our production license under the Cannabis Regulation Act. Since then, Lava Leaf Organics has been on a mission to raise the bar for what cannabis can be: sustainable, ethical, and extraordinary in every form.

How We Grow: Clean, Conscious, Community-Focused

We don’t just grow cannabis—we grow with purpose. Every decision—from soil to shelf—is rooted in sustainability, transparency, and social responsibility.

Our cultivation methods are:

  • Water-wise – Minimizing waste in a drought-prone region
  • Energy-smart – Implementing LED lighting and energy-efficient practices
  • Eco-friendly – Prioritizing recyclable packaging and local sourcing

We ask questions that matter:

  • Was this cannabis grown sustainably?
  • Are the farmers and creators fairly compensated?
  • Does the company support the community and the planet?

This is how we define premium cannabis—not just by quality, but by conscience.

Our Products: Crafted with Care, Tested for Quality

Whether you’re new to cannabis or a seasoned connoisseur, our lineup of products is designed with intentionality and purity in mind. Our offerings include:

  • Premium Cannabis Flower – Hand-trimmed and full-spectrum
  • Concentrates – Clean extracts with strain-specific profiles
  • Pre-Rolls – Rolled for convenience, made for quality
  • Topicals & Tinctures – Targeted relief with natural ingredients
  • Edibles – Delicious, effective, and precisely dosed

All our products undergo rigorous third-party lab testing to ensure safety, potency, and consistency.

Whether you're a discerning consumer seeking premium, ethically made cannabis, or a retailer searching for product lines that your customers will trust and love, Lava Leaf Organics offers more than cannabis flowers—we offer a philosophy.

Shop with Purpose. Partner with Passion. Grow with Lava Leaf.

At Lava Leaf Organics, our roots run deep in New Mexico soil and community care. What began as a vision between founders Mitchell, Tony, and Steve Martinez has blossomed into a cannabis company defined by resilience, intention, and integrity. How We Grow: Clean, Conscious, Community-Focused

We don't just grow cannabis — we grow with purpose. Every decision, from soil to shelf, is rooted in sustainability, transparency, and social responsibility.

Living soil, no synthetic inputs. Our Aztec farm grows in living soil with all-organic inputs and no synthetic pesticides. That's been the method since the first 25 plants went into 400-gallon pots, and it hasn't changed as we've scaled. Living soil builds biology that feeds the plant rather than requiring it to be fed chemically — fewer inputs, less runoff, and soil that improves season over season instead of depleting.

Water-wise in a drought-prone region. We farm 45 acres, 35 of them irrigated, in the high desert of San Juan County, where every gallon counts.

Sun-grown where it counts. We cultivate both outdoors and in a climate-controlled greenhouse. A full outdoor season runs on sunlight rather than supplemental lighting — the largest energy reduction available to any cannabis producer, and one indoor-only operations can't match.

Room for other growers. Our farm operates as an incubator. We've made land available to smaller producers through sharecropping arrangements, so people with the passion but not the capital can learn methods that work at scale. Sustainability includes the people in this industry, not just the inputs.

We ask questions that matter: Was this cannabis grown sustainably? Are the farmers and creators fairly compensated? Does the company support the community and the planet?

This is how we define premium cannabis — not just by quality, but by conscience.

Location & parking: We're at 5100 E Main St, Ste 105, on E. Main between Durango Joes and the Bow & Arrow Rambler Tap Room, near Taco Libre and Crumbl Cookie. Free parking is directly in front, and the store is wheelchair accessible.

Recreational and medical: Lava Leaf Organics is a licensed New Mexico cannabis retailer serving both adult-use customers and registered medical patients. Medical patients should bring a New Mexico medical cannabis card along with a valid ID for tax-exempt pricing.

Age and ID: You must be 21 or older with a valid, unexpired government-issued ID to enter. We check at the door every visit — an out-of-state license or passport works, and New Mexico residency isn't required. Meet the Founders

Lava Leaf Organics is family-run. Father Steve Martinez and sons Tony and Mitchell Martinez founded the company together and have built it from a 25-plant grow into the first cannabis producer licensed under New Mexico's Cannabis Regulation Act.

Tony Martinez — CEO
Tony came to cannabis through bodywork. He spent years as a massage therapist treating elite athletes and medical patients who were becoming dependent on painkillers, and that experience convinced him of the plant's therapeutic value. A San Juan County native, he leads the company's cultivation strategy and wholesale operations.

Mitchell Martinez — Co-Founder
Mitchell has been part of Lava Leaf since the beginning, working alongside his father and brother through the family's earliest grows and helping build the cultivation practices the company runs on today.

Steve Martinez — Co-Founder
Steve is the father in the partnership and was named on the family's original 2015 license application. He has been part of every stage of the company's growth, from the first 25 plants to the operation Lava Leaf runs now.

Our Story

The family's first production license application was denied in 2015. Rather than walk away, they partnered with medical producer Urban Wellness and spent six years cultivating under that license, refining their methods.

They started small — 25 plants in 400-gallon pots for the first four years, grown in living soil with all-organic inputs and no pesticides at their facility southwest of Aztec near Flora Vista. That approach hasn't changed, only scaled.

The persistence paid off. In December 2021, Lava Leaf received the first producer license issued under New Mexico's Cannabis Regulation Act, selected from more than 120 applications. The operation now spans 45 acres, 35 of them irrigated.

Testing & Transparency

Every product we sell is tested by an independent, state-licensed laboratory before it reaches our shelves. New Mexico requires it, and we treat it as a floor rather than a finish line.

Testing covers cannabinoid potency, terpene profile, pesticides, heavy metals, microbial contaminants, residual solvents, and mycotoxins. A batch that fails any panel can't legally be sold, and it isn't. Results are tied to a specific batch, which is why the THC percentage on one jar of a strain may differ from the next.

Want to see the numbers? Ask any budtender for the Certificate of Analysis on a product you're considering, or call us at (505) 860-1587. We'll pull it up.
